Arcaloy 312-15 electrodes were originally designed for welding of high tensile alloys to high temperature heat-resisting alloys. Best used out-of-position on AC or DC current.
Arcaloy 312-15 electrodes were originally designed for welding of high tensile alloys to high temperature heat-resisting alloys on turbo-jet engines. However, based upon performance, these electrodes have found wide acceptance for the welding of high yield steels and abrasion resisting steels and dissimilar steel joints. The high strength of the "all weld metal" deposit is usually reduced by dilution with a non-stainless steel base metal. The coating Type is basic which gives excellent out of position welding and is therefore used in field applications. The basic coating combined with the high ferrite content gives the maximum solidification cracking of all stainless steel electrodes. However, special procedures to minimize stresses should be used and still may not be successful.
