Recommended for repairing broken parts or building up worn or missing sections of zinc base die castings. Commonly used on automotive carburetors, grills, door handles, ornaments, fuel pumps, and other hardware. Also for repairing and salvaging kirksite dies as well as joining zinc die castings to dissimilar metals including aluminum.
Remove all dirt, grease, and other material from areas to be joined. Nickel and chromium plating should be removed by grinding. All sections over 1/8" (3.2mm) thick, bevel 60 to 90 degrees. Joint area should be supported with carbon or copper backup strips. Preheat to 400°F (204ºC). Use a soft carburizing flame. Heat end of rod, dip in All-State No. 53 Powdered Flux and transfer to joint area. Continue heating until flux turns clear, melt off small amount of filler metal and play flame on the alloy until it flows out and bonds. Joint may be built up without the use of flux. Cool slowly, then wash in hot water to remove flux residue.
